The challenge

RideSense is a motorcycling app built by a passionate founding team, but none of the co-founders had a design background. The initial app was outsourced, and the in-house team responsible for redesigning and building new features consisted of a single junior designer. There were visible inconsistencies across the product, no structured design process, and gaps in how design deliverables were handed off to engineering. The team needed someone to bring order to the chaos and raise the bar on design quality.

The process

I came on as a design advisor and consultant, working hands-on with the founders, the junior designer, and the engineering team. I audited the entire existing product, identified inconsistencies, and built out a design system to bring visual and interaction coherence across the app. I set up a structured design process framework covering everything from how work gets scoped to how it gets handed off. I ran workshops on branding, identity, and the product's overall look and feel going forward. To put all of this into practice, we took on the MDS redesign, a two-month project to overhaul the app's navigation feature, which shipped successfully and is now live.

The outcome

Over the course of the engagement, RideSense went from having no formal design process to operating with a structured workflow, a functional design system, and consistent design deliverables. The MDS navigation redesign shipped in two months and is live in the current app. The junior designer grew from working in isolation to following a repeatable process with clear standards for quality and handoff. Beyond process and product, I am also helping the team hire and grow their design team. The engagement is ongoing, with the foundation now in place to scale design across new features and a growing team to execute on it.
